Description
Are you looking for a truly extreme run? A run that pushes you to your physical and mental limits? A run that you have never experienced like this before? Then the World Extreme Running Challenge, also known as the ‘WERC’, is just right for you. The World Extreme Running Challenge is held in Kitzbühel (Austria) and takes you directly up the legendary Streif.
The World Extreme Running Challenge in Kitzbühel is an extreme sporting event, as you will be running up the mountain where daring skiers usually ‘plunge down’ in winter. The starting shot is fired in the centre of Kitzbühel, from where you tackle the approximately 7 km long running course of the Streif. The running course itself is divided into an ascent and a descent, with 3,152 metres having to be conquered in each case. The turning point is marked by the start house, where the first split time is taken. During the short ascent, you have to overcome a staggering 800 metres in altitude with an 85% gradient. There's no need to mention how this affects your leg and calf muscles at this point. It goes without saying that you also need extremely good cardio, as this is the only way you have any chance of reaching the finish line in the World Extreme Running Challenge.
