Description
The Great Railway Run is a unique 25-kilometer road race that traces the historic path of the old railway line from Cork City to Carrigaline. Organized by the Carrigaline & District Lions Club with support from Carrigaline Athletic Club, this event offers participants a chance to experience a scenic and predominantly flat route.
The race begins on Monahan Road in Cork City, leading runners through picturesque areas such as Blackrock, Rochestown, Passage, Monkstown, Raffeen, and Shanbally, before concluding at the Lions Youth Centre in Carrigaline. This course not only provides a physical challenge but also immerses participants in the rich history and natural beauty of the region.
Proceeds from the event support local charities and the development of athletic facilities in the community, making each step meaningful beyond the finish line.
