Vertical Up in Kitzbühel

Description

The Vertical Up takes place on the most legendary and steepest ski run in the world, the Streif in Austria. However, the Streif Vertical Up does not go downhill, but extremely steeply uphill. This makes the Vertical Up a spectacular mountain run that the whole of Kitzbühel looks forward to year after year.

The Vertical Up has achieved real cult status in just a few years. And no wonder, because the Vertical Up in Austria combines many extremes at once. With a length of only approx. 3.3 km, you have to overcome a whopping 860 metres in altitude. The maximum gradient is an incredible 85%, which makes the Vertical Up a tough mountain run.

It's up to you how you tackle the Streif descent. It doesn't matter whether you use touring skis, cross-country skis, running shoes with spikes, crampons, snowshoes, ski poles or even barefoot. The only important thing is that you manage the Streif descent under your own steam and wear the mandatory equipment (headlamp and helmet).

In the Vertical Up, you can choose between two classes. The speed class is the supreme discipline, where it's all about speed. In this class, you have to conquer the original race course. The rucksack class is a ‘fun competition’ in which you also have to carry a full rucksack.

Prizes are also awarded for the largest team, the fastest from the Kitzbühel district and the best costumes.
