Description
The Glendalough Lap of the Gap Marathon offers an unparalleled running experience through the heart of the Wicklow Mountains National Park in Ireland. Starting in the historic monastic village of Glendalough, participants embark on a journey that ascends to the highland pass of Sally Gap, reaching elevations up to 504 meters. The marathon covers a distance of 42.2 km with an elevation gain of approximately 800 meters, while the half-marathon spans 21.1 km with a 340-meter elevation gain.
Runners traverse a variety of terrains, from tranquil country lanes to dramatic heather-covered landscapes, passing landmarks such as the Glenmacnass Waterfall and the iconic Lough Tay, also known as the 'Guinness Lake'. This event is renowned for its challenging hills, rewarding participants with breathtaking scenery and a warm Wicklow welcome.
