Description

The Athens Marathon. The Authentic is a prestigious annual event that traces the legendary route from Marathon to Athens, commemorating the historic run of the ancient messenger Pheidippides. This marathon offers participants a unique opportunity to experience a course rich in history and challenge.

The marathon begins in the town of Marathon, passing the Tomb of the Athenian Soldiers, and continues through Nea Makri. Runners face a significant elevation gain between the 10 km and 31 km marks, making it one of the more demanding marathon courses. The race culminates at the historic Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. 

In addition to the full marathon, the event weekend includes a 10 km Road Race OPAP and a 5 km Road Race COSMOTE. These shorter distances provide opportunities for runners of varying abilities to participate in the festivities.​
