Description
Unique, breathtaking, unbelievably beautiful and challenging - these are all equally true of the Aletsch Half Marathon in Switzerland. The Aletsch Half Marathon is being held for the 38th time this season, which clearly speaks for the uniqueness of the Aletsch Half Marathon and its popularity among mountain runners. The location is right in the Aletsch Arena with a view of the Great Aletsch Glacier and the four-thousand-metre peaks. This makes the Aletsch Half Marathon one of the most beautiful mountain runs in Europe. So it's no wonder that over 2,500 participants from all over the world take part in the Aletsch Half Marathon every year.
The starting signal for the Aletsch Half Marathon is given at an altitude of 1,950 metres. Over the course of the route, you will climb up to 2,650 metres to the Bettmerhorn (finish). In total, you have to overcome a whopping 1,050 metres in altitude on the 21.1 km route. Most of the route takes you through Alpine terrain that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have to conquer numerous climbs, some of them very steep, which will demand a high level of fitness. If you are taking part in the Aletsch Half Marathon, you should definitely be sure-footed and experienced in mountain running in these high-altitude regions.
