Blisters are every runner's worst enemy. Not only do they spoil the fun of a running event such as an obstacle course or a marathon, they also cause unpleasant pain for days after a running event. Here you can find out how you can easily avoid the formation of running blisters.

What you need to know to avoid blisters when running and hiking

Blisters on the foot are every runner's nightmare - whether you're running a marathon, obstacle course or triathlon. After just a few kilometers, a blister on the foot can mean the end of the fun of running. There are numerous tips to avoid blisters in the first place or to treat them properly in an emergency. Everyone should find the right "recipe" for themselves.

Top tips for avoiding blisters when running

Here are our top tips for avoiding running blisters:

1. Breaking in new running shoes

The most important tip: Never go on a running course with new, untested running shoes. A new shoe should always be broken in thoroughly first. Ideally, you should run at least 20 to 30 km with the new shoe before a major running event. An example from my own experience: During a two-day Spartan Race, I was unlucky enough to lose my broken-in running shoe after the first day. The second day with a fresh, unfamiliar shoe was unfortunately less pleasant.

2. The right running socks

The choice of socks also plays a crucial role. Thin, seamless running socks that fit snugly on the foot and are tailored to the anatomy of the left and right foot significantly reduce the risk of blisters. Avoid socks that wrinkle. The "Low Cut" model from CEP, for example, was specially developed for blister-free running.

3. Taping parts of the foot

The topic of tape is polarizing: while some runners tape certain problem areas on the foot before running, others only resort to tape when a blister becomes noticeable. Leukotape has proven particularly effective - an extremely robust tape with strong adhesive power that reliably protects the foot.

With these tips, the risk of blisters can be significantly reduced and the joy of running can be maintained.
